ENAMELING ON METAL CLAY 

with PAM EAST!!

April 9-12, 2015



Do you love metal clay? Do you love color?? Do you want to add some fabulous color to your metal clay creations?? OF COURSE YOU DO!! 

Pam East is the QUEEN of Enameling on Metal Clay and she will be coming to Cleveland for four days of classes, teaching us how to successfully enamel on both Copper metal clay and Silver metal clay!! These classes are based on the techniques she teaches in her wildly successful DVDs!!

She will be teaching two separate classes: Enameling on Copper Clay (April 9-10) and Enameling on Silver Clay (April 11-12). You can register for either one, or both (like I did)! Whatever you decide to do, do it SOON!! Space is limited and the classes are filling up quickly!

TWO FABULOUS EARRINGS WORKSHOPS WITH DONNA PENOYER!

October 20 & 21, 2012


The most wonderful and talented Donna Penoyer will be teaching her techniques for making fabulous and elegant earrings. She will show us additional tips and tricks for making other kinds of earrings and taking the earrings designs a step further into a pendant! 


Hollow Boat Earrings



Donna will teach one of her favorite earring designs, plus variations on a theme of “reinventing the lentil.” Students will make the hollow earrings featured on the right above, using textures of their choice, and will learn useful and versatile skills for shaping fine silver wire and attaching it securely before firing. But that’s not all! Donna will also reveal some wonderfully simple and quick ways of making metal clay hollow forms in any shape, without the use of armatures. All levels welcome.

MARY HETTMANSPERGER SEPTEMBER 8 & 9

Mary Hettmansperger (aka Mary Hetts) is coming to Chagrin Falls on September 8th and 9th for two workshops!!


Alternative Surfaces



Students will use a variety of patinas and cold connections to create unique and personal jewelry, using copper, brass and silver sheeting.    Students are encouraged to bring their budding ideas, and discover the endless options for assembling and connecting.  Patinas, texturing, and basic wire and metal applications will also be covered.  Many surfaces using the torch, embossing, paint, industrial 2-part epoxy, and found items will all be used to create alternative surfaces.   The focus of this class will be on alternative techniques for surfaces and exploring the options and possibilities of metal jewelry and cold connections.

Torch Firing and Tab Bezels
Class Full!!

Using torch firing in a variety of ways, students will make colorful and unique pieces of jewelry.  Copper sheeting, wire, enamels, cold connections and embellishments will all be used to create layering and unusual effects in enameling.  Patinas, texturing, and basic wire and metal applications will also be covered.  Many torching techniques will be covered, such as adding Glass beads, silver foil, resist, sifting, embedding items, stencils, patinas and more.  The focus will be the endless possibilities of torch fire enameling and the benefits of using tab bezels to connect when using enamels.

MC-3 2012 HIGHLIGHTS!

Slip Painting with Metal Clay
CLASS FULL!!!



Skill level: Determined Beginner / Intermediate—participant needs to have at least one or two PMC classes under their belt.

In this workshop, participants will explore the unique versatility of PMC3 paste. Each person will learn to apply designs and images to a PMC+ surface. A variety of techniques will be covered—using slab construction and simple hollow forms as canvases, create a bas-relief effect using the paste as a painting medium, and creating 3-dimensional hollow forms using PMC3 paste as a sculpting medium. Once the pieces are fired, weʼll go over finishing technique—burnishing, polishing, patinas—to further enhance your work.

Hinged Box Pendant
CLASS FULL!!!


Skill level: Advanced Beginner / Intermediate—participant needs to have at least two PMC classes under their belt.

In this workshop, explore the process of making a box using silver PMC. Turn it into a pendant that holds something thatʼs close to your heart. Weʼll examine the process of constructing a box—with a hook-n-hasp-style closure which is integrated into the lid. A variety of silver PMC materials will be used in this project. The techniques covered are paper templates/ pattern making, working with 1 and 2-ply sheet clay, dry construction, hollow forms, drilling, making sheet clay hinges, riveting, closures, wire bending and finishing.

PMC Sterling with Handmade Felt
CLASS CANCELLED!!!


Come play with the latest and greatest of the metal clays - PMC Sterling!! In this class we will make a setting for a pendant from sterling metal clay to contain a hand-felted focal piece. Make a bezel-style setting or create your own unique design to combine the two materials into a finished sterling jewelry! We will also explore some of the various methods for securing the felt piece in this and future work.
Leftover clay can be used to make other items as time and kiln space allows.

Using Your Flex Shaft: A Hands-On Workshop


If youʼve never used a flex shaft but have wanted to learn how, or if youʼve used one occasionally but know thereʼs more you can do with it, this class is for you! Learn what all those attachments are for and how to use them, as well as the care and maintenance of your bench tool. Bring your flex shaft so you can learn and practice on your own machine!
The class will include a detailed handout with descriptions (with Rio Grande order numbers) for the most useful attachments, plus a kit containing some of these basic attachments so you can go home and practice right away!

FOUR DAYS WITH TERRY KOVALCIK!!!

The MC-3 Retreat will be August 16-19, 2012 and will feature Terry Kovalcik!! Terry will be teaching his Hinged Box Pendant class (which was sold out at the PMC Conference!) as well as his Slip Painting with Metal Clay class!! Both of these are 2-day classes, so we'll have Terry with us for FOUR DAYS!!!

Catherine Davies Paetz will be with us again to teach a PMC Sterling class!! Here's your chance to work with the newest (and coolest!) PMC clay!!

And back by popular demand is an all day, Hands-on Flex Shaft class!! This is a great class will teach you to use your flex shaft to your advantage and go through all the attachments you will use everyday for making jewelry! The class is offered by metalsmith and all-around talented artist Kristina Malcolm!

Mixed Metal Biker’s
Stirrup Style Riveted Bracelet


Have a blast in this day long class by mixing up copper, brass and fine silver to create this mixed media bracelet. The stirrup style bike chain is a classic link that we will take to another level. We will cut, texture, punch and shape each stirrup link and learn the techniques necessary to keep each link uniform. Then we will fuse the connecting silver rings and assemble the sections together with brass tubing and fine silver rivets. All in all it will be a day full of learning or fine tuning your metalsmithing skills.
